Biography
On August 24, 1993, Andrew Rebane became a member of the Law Society of British Columbia thereby becoming a practicing lawyer. Only days later, Andrew found himself handling 4 court applications on a Monday morning in Supreme Court Chambers located in Chilliwack, British Columbia. In those days, more people qualified for Legal Aid giving Andrew the opportunity to appear in court 6-8 times per month in chambers or in trial on behalf of clients needing assistance in family or criminal law. By 1997, Andrew Rebane had focussed his practice solely in the area of family law and due to his volume of clientele had become very adept on his feet in the courtroom and knowledgeable in the area of Family Law. Andrew’s clientele encompassed individuals of all walks of life from the businessman with multiple companies and parcels of properties to women living in transition houses to escape abusive partners. Andrew counts these years as giving him the skills to assess legal issues facing his clients quickly and determining the most efficient route to resolving their legal disputes.
In 1997, a leading firm in Abbotsford asked Andrew to join so as to add further depth to its litigation department. Soon, in addition to practicing in the area of family law, Andrew was representing a leading Fraser Valley financial institution in relation to their doing foreclosure/collections matters as well as representing small and medium size businesses and employees on wrongful dismissal/human rights matters. Andrew also represented individuals in businesses in disputes involving breach of purchase/sale agreements for real estate, unpaid real estate commission, breach of commercial and residential tenancy matters.
In 2005, Andrew had the honour of being voted by his professional peers onto the Provincial Council of the Canadian Bar Association, British Columbia Branch where he served for 1 term.
The late 2000s found Andrew managing his own law firm of 7 lawyers in Abbotsford and his practice was focussed upon the areas of real estate conveyancing, purchases and sale of businesses as well as continuing to represent financial institutions on foreclosures and collection matters.
By 2011, Andrew decided he missed the “cut and thrust” of the court room and returned to practicing litigation with a focus on family law, wills & estates (or as Andrew calls it “family law for the deceased”), wrongful dismissal/human rights and real estate litigation. Andrew counts his time behind the desk doing what is called solicitor work as being invaluable in assisting his clients involved in highly contentious legal matters.
